Requesting a hostname and IP
If you need to put a computing device on the Computer Science wired (Ethernet) network, please contact: support@cs.ucdavis.edu and provide the Location, MAC address, PI for your lab, and a suggested hostname for your device.
Check Hostname Availability
You can use nslookup to verify the hostname you desire, for instance, to check to see if "dignity.cs.ucdavis.edu" is available, open a terminal and type:
$ nslookup dignity.cs.ucdavis.edu
Requesting Networking Cables and Switches
CS Faculty, Staff, and Research labs can request network Ethernet cables and desktop switches, which are supplied by the department through the System Support Group (SSG). Please contact support@cs.ucdavis.edu.
